Meta Muse is Meta's personal AI agent, announced on 8 September 2026. It is built to carry out multi-step tasks on a person's behalf—sending email, booking travel, filling forms, comparing options, negotiating and completing purchases after approval—rather than only answering questions in a chat window. Each user runs Muse inside a dedicated cloud environment called Muse Secure VM. The agent is powered by Meta's Muse Spark model family and is reached through the Muse app, the web at muse.ai, WhatsApp and a Mac app.

This page is an independent reference guide. It is not Meta, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp or the Muse product team. Product claims below are drawn first from Meta's own announcement and related documentation; other reporting is noted as such.

What Muse actually does

Meta describes Muse as an agent that helps people stay on top of daily work and longer goals. You state an outcome; Muse plans steps, opens a browser, fills forms, negotiates where relevant and returns when it needs approval or when something changes. Launch examples from Meta and early coverage include selling a car, lowering a bill, booking tickets or appointments, turning saved recipes into grocery lists and adjusting a fitness plan as life changes.

For longer jobs Muse continues after the app is closed. Sensitive actions—sending email or completing a purchase—are described as requiring user approval under default settings. Users can watch the agent's browser and take over when needed.

Muse is not Meta AI, Muse Spark or Muse Image

Meta used the Muse name for several products in 2026, which confuses search results.

• Muse is the personal AI agent product launched 8 September 2026.
• Muse Spark is the model family (reported as Muse Spark 1.3 powering the agent at launch). It is not a separate consumer app.
• Muse Image is a generative image product announced earlier in 2026.
• Meta AI is Meta's existing assistant across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and other Meta surfaces. It answers questions and helps inside those apps; it is not the same product as the Muse agent with Secure VM and task execution.

Architecture: Muse Secure VM and Sentinel

Meta states that personal agents need stronger isolation than a normal chatbot session. Each person receives Muse Secure VM, a dedicated virtual machine in Meta's cloud that holds the agent, its browser, connected data and credentials.

A separate process named Sentinel runs on the same machine but is isolated at the system level from Muse. Meta says nothing Muse attempts to send to the internet proceeds unless Sentinel approves it. That gate is the main control Meta highlights for outbound network actions.

Credentials and payment methods are held in secure storage the agent can invoke without reading raw secrets. For checkout Meta points to Link by Stripe and one-time card numbers so the real card is not exposed to the agent or the merchant. Meta markets Muse as the first AI agent covered by Link purchase protections on eligible transactions.

User controls include connector choice, permission scope (for example read email versus send), approval prompts, an audit trail of planned and completed steps, the ability to disconnect services and an opt-out of using interactions to train Meta models. Meta also states Muse conversations and VM data are not shared with its ad systems.

Meta has described a later Muse Confidential VM option that would encrypt the environment under a key held only by the user. As of late September 2026 no general availability date was published.

Memory, connectors and payments

Muse is described as retaining relevant facts across sessions—preferences, constraints, ongoing projects—with user control to forget items. Long-term goals can be broken into plans that adjust as circumstances change.

Connector categories reported at and after launch include email, calendars, payments, shopping, health and fitness, smart home and expanded productivity and commerce tools. Exact availability depends on region and account. Meta's product surfaces are the source of truth for which connectors an account can enable.

Payments centre on Link by Stripe with one-time cards. Shop Pay and 1Password support have been mentioned in coverage as coming, without fixed public dates in the materials reviewed for this guide.

Availability and access surfaces

Meta launched Muse in the United States on 8 September 2026 for adults 18 and older. Access later expanded to Canada according to multiple reports in mid-to-late September 2026.

Pricing: free tier, Power and Maximum

Meta describes Muse as free for most everyday needs, with paid subscriptions for higher usage.

• Free — $0, usage limit that refreshes. Meta has indicated many users should fit here.
• Power — $20 per month, higher weekly Muse token allowance (commonly reported around 500 million tokens per week).
• Maximum — $100 per month, highest widely reported weekly allowance (commonly around 3 billion tokens per week).

Some launch coverage also cited roughly 100 million tokens per week for free. Meta has not always published one consolidated public table covering every surface and limit, so the in-app meter and official help materials remain the check before relying on any number. Agent work—planning, browsing, tool calls, generation and background progress—draws from the same allowance pool in the model Meta describes.

Invite codes and referral tokens

On 16 September 2026 Meta launched a referral program for Muse. When a new user redeems another user's invite code in Settings within 48 hours of creating an account, both accounts are credited 1 billion Muse tokens. Official and widely reported rules include:

• Redeem in the Muse app or at muse.ai under Settings → General → Redeem invite code (mobile often labels it Redeem token)
• The 48-hour window starts at account creation, not when you find a code
• Each referrer can invite up to about 20 friends for the full bonus path; each code is also reported to have a finite use limit (commonly cited around 20–30 uses)
• Bonus tokens are described as not expiring

How to try one: create your account at muse.ai or in the Muse app, then within 48 hours open Settings and redeem. If a code fails, try another or ask a friend who already has access. Community pools such as builtwithmuse.com also rotate live codes.

What is still unclear or changing

Meta has not published a complete public schedule for regions beyond the US and Canada, full free-tier quotas on every surface, or a firm ship date for Muse Confidential VM. Task reliability depends on connectors, site changes and permission settings; independent testing results vary by source. Marketing phrases such as "first personal AI agent built for everyone" are Meta's positioning, not independent verification. Public invite codes expire or hit use caps without notice.
